Vinianske Lake and Historical Castle
Romantic 8-hectare lake surrounded by forests with warm water and a medieval castle with panoramic views. Ideal for families, only 10 km from Michalovce.
Vinianske Lake is a picturesque body of water with an area of 8 hectares, surrounded by dense forests from all sides. With an average depth of 3 meters and warm water, it offers ideal conditions for summer recreation. It is located only 10 kilometers from Michalovce, making it a perfect destination for a half-day or full-day trip.
The lake provides excellent swimming opportunities in clean water, walks around the lake on forest paths and pedal boat rental. On the shore you will find snack bars and restaurants where you can enjoy local specialties. For families with children, there is a playground and maintained beaches.
The dominant feature of the area is Viniansky Castle (Castle above Vinné), whose first written mention dates from 1335. The castle was the center of the Michalovce estate from the 14th century until the beginning of the 18th century, when the emperor had it destroyed so it would not become a seat of rebels. Today, Renaissance vaults are partially preserved and since 2023 the castle courtyard has also been restored.
From the castle there is a beautiful panoramic view of the East Slovak Lowland. During the tour you can see traces of fireplaces, cellar areas and archaeological finds including coins, rings and decorated tiles. You can reach the castle by two access routes - from Vinianske Lake or from the village of Vinné.
In the castle area there is an information center, a captain's house with a shop and guided tour services can be ordered. The combination of the lake's natural beauty and the castle's historical atmosphere creates a unique experience for all age categories.
